Sharron Okines describes her prints, from a body of work titled ‘Love letter’ as being inspired by images of her husband at work. ‘I have always liked to look upwards. The dramatic shapes that are created by looking upward through these images fascinate me. I am exploring the place of these workers in their space in our communities. I hope my interpretations will draw attention to the unseen familiar and create dialogue around the quietly diligent men who ensure one of our most essential services.’
Sharron’s series, a group of linocut, drypoint and aquatint etching prints was exhibited in Brunswick Street Gallery’s recent printmaking show. Her description of Lineworkers as people ‘Very proud of the work they do, but reluctant to draw attention to themselves’ should make every linie proud.
