Storylines, a new series of Works on Paper
DAILY LIFE DOG DRAWINGS, 2519 as at 11 May 2021
So, after the non year which was 2020, I continue with my daily drawings, well, almost, my practice has changed a little, and I may not draw every single day, but I do make sure I have completed seven per week and might do two or three in one go - most recently have been enjoying using ink on large paper in my studio. Sadly we lost our beloved Lulu on 1 August 2020 - however, happily, we were fortunate to get a puppy right at the beginning of lockdown. Our dear Henry is just turned one and is sooooo cute, but naughty of course as all lab pups are! On we go - still a life drawing, Henry is far wigglier than Lulu, because. puppy! Loved drawing him as he grew so fast, enjoying getting to know his little quirks. Practise.
DAILY LIFE DOG DRAWINGS, 2223 as at 26 May 2020
A vital part of my art practice, these daily life dog drawing started as a 30 day challenge - I have been drawing my dog(s) every day for well over six years now and with the arrival of a puppy not looking like stopping anytime soon!.
I document these drawings on facebook and instagram. (SharronOkinesArtist, #sharronokines50)
Drawings take from a few seconds (literally) to 30 minutes or more - it all depends on how long the dog stays still for.
As this is a "life" drawing observational exercise, I do NOT work from a photograph.
I have learned more recently to contain the drawings in a sketchbook rather than on loose sheets of paper.
It gives me the opportunity to "play" with different mediums and I try to do this for a longer period of time - these days, for the life of any given sketchbook.
Most are for sale. Size and prices range from $50-100

Chardie, my beloved cocker spaniel has been gone for four years now, Lulu, my black lab is 14 1/2 years old, so, I shall keep drawing her until then. As facebook throws up memories, it gives me a small, intimate smile when I see a past drawing. It is a love letter of sorts, a diary of sorts and not a bad habit to have formed when all is said and done. Practise!
