To reflect on another fabulous art year. 2 solo shows, showing my paintings and prints, being a selected artist in some fabulous group shows, including one in New York and in Cairns, finalist in 2 more shows, my first commission, participating in print exchanges including the Beautiful Soup folio exchange and exhibition curated by the fabulous Rona Green, one in the UK and another in the US. And not forgetting the arrival of Nellie the press, my studio spaces at home are all working beautifully! Looking forward to 2013 and being a continually creating, exhibiting, selling successful artist. BRING IT ON, its' gonna be a ripper of a year! Massive Thank you to my darling who gives me the support and freedom to do what I do and to my gorgeous friends, supporters and mentors who encourage me every step of the way.xxxx Brightest blessings to you all.

Splendid big 5-0h celebrations, surrounded by be-loveds and bunches upon bunches of best birthday wishes sent my way. Am loving the freedom that comes with turning 50 - feeling really free and comfy being me. Frocked up in a lovely Hell Bunny 50's (lol) inspired dress complete with petticoat (ok, it was all about the petticoat), which I do not have a photo of yet but plan to wear on every possible occasion possible. That petticoat!!!
The LuWow was a hoot, ott tiki/hawaiian themed and LOTS of lovely cocktails, laughs and chats. Perfect. My love and I went to Vue de Monde for lunch on my b.day. A long held dream (loving food as I do), I admit I have a bit of a thing for Shannon Bennett, but really it was all about the food and wine. The theatre of food and wine - it was an attack on all senses, which, being an artist, is what its' all about, from the view, to the impeccable service, sublime wine to match each of the beautiful courses. All the hype is certainly true and most definately a perfect way to celebrate. Anything! I often ponder how my colour palette came about, it has always seemed to be instinctual and I always revert to the same colours. The other day I looked around the walls in my house which I painted while I wasn't being an artist some 10 years ago. Yep, you guessed it! That palette is in my house, it has always been my colour palette!! Fascinating. Well I think so anyways!! This is what my generally non-artistically inspired husband had to say.........
"Mona....has reaffirmed the sexual, art as intellectual foreplay, fun and stimulating - or not! Just walk on with your eyes. A day of smiling, go with it, pretty, arresting, stark, dead, sexy, flesh, death and arrows hitting the bullseye of mind......." another great juxtaposition, which is the name of the game at the very fantastic MONA. After having respective minds played with very nicely we got back to Salamanca, wondered what all the fuss was with loads of policemen and barracades. I was born in England after all. My mum tells me I am the first in the family to have seen royalty. Suppose they are the original celebs afterall. I was rather more tickled to see Catherine Deveny at breakfast the next morning I must say Soooooo! I have just been to the most crowded most red dots exhibition ever. One day I will own an original Shag painting, but in the meantime satiate my desire with a limited edition book and print. So for all those out there saying the art market is dead, certainly not for Josh Agles. I just adore his colours and style, oh so Mad Men!
Fantastic opening, so many people at the opening. Still on show until 4th November at the very nice St Heliers at Abbotsford Convent.(such a great place to spend a few hours I must say-a little bit of serenity) I am in the middle there chatting to Print Council of Australia folk. Was fabulous to meet up with some fellow artists and actually put some faces to names. (Hope I wasn't too star struck!) Have attached the catalogue for you to browse through. How wrapt do you think I am - I get one of each of these prints for my own collection. It is so true that a photograph does not do true justice to the real thing, these prints are just wonderful. There is only 1 print available for sale from each artist, and lots had red dots on them when I left. (I do however have a couple of A/P's available if you are interested) /uploads/2/5/1/8/2518697/beautiful_soup_exhibition_catalogue1.pdf I of course thought that as soon as Nellie the press arrived, it would be straight forward to set her and off we would go into edition printmaking heaven. hmmmmmm well, 2 days later and 28, yes 28 trial prints to get the right pressure for an even lush black, the blanket was too soft, the board too hard, but the cheapie cutting mat from Riot ultimately was just right and here we go, 2 perfect prints. Alright!!! I do believe I am in business!
Nellie, my new press! Thought such a beautiful thing needed a name, after all we are going to be buddies for a long long time to come. Nellie popped into my head, so, Nellie she is. It was time to invest in myself so to speak. Previously, I didn't think I had enough space to accommodate a press and be able to work effectively in a small space, but with a bit of tidying and reorganising, I think its' going to work brilliantly. Let the printing commence!! I have been working on a heap of plates whilst waiting for the press to arrive (as well as painting a commissioned portrait of Willow, a very cute labrador). This is for a new series "Kitchenalia" which I am very excited about. It fits gloriously with my love of 50's and 60's ahem Kitchenalia! and beyond |
